DC and Tom King crushed it this week with yet another incredible issue of Batman! There will be spoilers ahead, but if you haven’t read Batman yet, stop reading this and go read that, then come back to this. This week was one of the most emotional comics I have ever read and the perfect end to Tom Kings first year on Batman. This comic highlights what it truly is to be Batman, it doesn’t mean not fearing anything, but being scared and pushing through it. It doesn’t mean wanting to live a life of solitude and sadness, but doing it because its what Gotham needs. The conversation between Batman and Gotham Girl was a moment of pure honesty that, for once, let Batman be human. And as great as all that is, it pales in comparison to the final pages. In these pages you see Batman and Catwoman on a rooftop, and Batman tells her that he bought the diamond that she tried to steal when they first met, and then with that diamond Batman asks her to marry him! Both Brandon and I became misty-eyed reading this, and it shows the true depths of these characters and their effect on people. Batman #24 will no doubt go down in history. Also check out: Superman, Nightwing, Wonder Woman: Steve Trevor, Justice League and Green Lanterns.
Marvel this week introduced their new Darth Vader comic into their lineup. This series will be focusing on the events that took place directly after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. In this first issue they made some big changes in the Star Wars canon by changing the way that Sith lightsaber crystals are made. Instead of them being made through alchemy, it is now you take a normal Kyber crystal and pour into it all your hate and malice until the crystal ‘bleeds’. This is an interesting change to make and pair it with excellent artwork, this comic looks like it will be another hit in a long line of successes for Marvel Star Wars. Also check out: Amazing Spider-Man, Black Bolt, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, X-Men Gold and Avengers.
