DC is trying to bring a more lighter tone to its film universe with the development of SHAZAM!. Though the director David F. Sandberg is more known for horror films like Lights Out and Annebelle: Creation but seems to be positive to give us the most upbeat DC film yet.
In a recent interview with Toronto Sun Sandberg teased us about the tone of the film.
"In terms of what people can expect," Sandberg explained. "I think this will be one of the more fun or light-hearted movies so far in the DC universe. It certainly will be a departure."
Sandberg also gave us a little tidbit on the characters position in the larger DCEU, given that Billy Batson is only a 10-year old boy who can transform into SHAZAM!
"The big attraction for me with that character is the fact that every kid dreams of being Superman, right? I mean I certainly did, and (Billy Batson) is a kid that gets that chance. He gets to become the superhero. So, it’ll be big with superpowers in a way.
Shazam! is expected to release April 5, 2019.
