I finally got a chance to see Jordan Peele's 'Get Out'.
This movie blew me away, and I expected as much considering all I heard about it were amazing things. This movie is one of the most original, and unique movies I've ever seen. Which is one of the things I loved most about it, its extremely refreshing to see a movie like this when it seems Hollywood has just given up on original ideas these past few years. 'Get Out' is not only original and unique but is so well written and acted, and has some amazing cinematography. Daniel Kaluuya (Chris Washington) did a fantastic job in this movie, I had never seen him in anything else before this but I will be watching out for him now, and I'm very excited to see him in 'Black Panther' coming out next year. Kaluuya really makes you believe his discomfort through out the film, but it doesn't make you (the audience) uncomfortable, which I think is very important. Another stand out performance was by Allison Williams (Rose Armitage), I'll try not to give anything away but at one point in this movie she makes a complete 180 and switches her character and she does it perfectly.
This movie is great at taking classic horror elements and making them new and fresh again and does a great job at being intense and creepy, as well as really funny and entertaining, but it doesn't mess with the tone of the movie at all. While this movie is creepy and very intense, it wasn't as much of a horror movie as I seemed to be expecting going in to it. Which is totally fine with me because I'm a big baby when it comes to scary movies, but I'm a sucker for a good thriller. I was on the edge of my seat through this entire movie, and if it wasn't for the two people sitting beside me that wouldn't shut up, it would've been an amazing movie going experience. And I know this a very brief review, but I cant bare to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, because as Jamie likes to say, it'll "blow your tits off!".
This movie is hands down my favorite movie of 2017 so far, and if you haven't seen it you should do so, NOW!
I'm giving 'Get Out' a 9.5/10
"A young black man visits his white girlfriend's family estate where he learns that many of its residents, who are black, have gone missing, and he soon learns the horrible truth when a fellow black man on the estate warns him to "get out". He soon learns this is easier said than done."
