Get ready for the origins you've all bee waiting for, Warner Bros and DC are in development of a stand alone Joker origin film with Martin Scorses, Scott Silver and Todd Philips to be overseeing the film.
According to the reports that it is still in early development and has stated that the file is not expected to be "part of any other iteration" previously seen in the DCEU, so that means that this film will not fit into the DCEU and don't expect current Joker Runner Jared Leto to helm the iconic role.
“The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-’80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy,” Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. writes.
“I’m told that Phillips and Silver are writing already, but there is nothing firm on where this will fit into the DC schedule.”
Fleming Jr. also stated that the film “will be the first film under a new banner that has yet to be named in which WB can expand the canon of DC properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the iconic characters.”
Interesting move to make seeing as how they just got the DCEU up off the ground last year and are already starting the make another extended cinematic universe. Be sure to keep it here for more updates on the matter.
